Touring Artist Roster
Singing together since 1984 as the jazz vocal duo, Mood Indigo, Joe Romano
and Susan Elliott are noted for their unique arrangements of classic and
contemporary jazz melodies and close, precise harmony, accompanied by
acoustic guitar, harmonicas and hand percussion. In addition to performing
public concerts, the duo has developed a musical program for intermediate,
middle and high school age students, which combines their own unique
arrangements of classic songs with an historical perspective of the
songwriters who composed them and the evolution of vocal jazz in the 20th
century. Popular songs from the 1920s to the present, written and performed
by such artists as the Gershwins, Duke Ellington, The Ink Spots, Lambert
Hendricks and Ross, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Al Jarreau, are featured.

Roster
Joanie Barnes Stewart is a Texas lawyer and a third-generation storyteller
in the African tradition. She creates dramatic characterizations with her
exciting and fun-filled oral presentations. Audience participation is a key
element of her interactive storytelling style. She uses storytelling to
captivate and transport her audience to far-off lands. History, folktales
and stories from around the world are brought to life as she inspires her
audience to grasp new wisdom and gain new insights. Her delightful
renditions of stories from diverse cultures have enchanted children and
adults alike for many years.

Presenters:Mr. John Robison, KCBD-TV Senior Meteorologist, Lubbock, Texas
and DPE Staff
Mr. John Robison, KCBD's senior meteorologist, will address the occurrence
of cyclones, typhoons, hurricanes, tornadoes and other severe weather
phenomena around the world. He will then address the tornado threat
affecting the South Plains each spring, advising students of the role played
by the media in alerting local residents to the potential dangers posed by
this local severe weather phenomenon, and insuring that they are aware of
the safety precautions that they should take. Representative students from
each school in attendance will assist Mr. Robison in a live demonstration of
producing a Tornado in a Bottle.
