Presenters: Ms. Gretchen Skidmore, Instructor of history at the
N.C. School of Science
and Mathematics and co-author of the Teacher Study Guide for the
Academy-award
winning documentary Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the
Kindertransport.

The Division of Public Education at the International Cultural Center of
Texas Tech University is proud to announce a teacher workshop led by Ms.
Gretchen Skidmore, an instructor of history at the North Carolina School of
Science and Mathematics. Gretchen was hand-picked to give this program
presentation by Mr. Stephen Feinberg, Director of National Outreach with the
Educational Division of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum,
Washington, D.C. Mr. Feinberg was scheduled to speak at this workshop, but
has been reassigned by his supervisor to a meeting in Europe,
and Mrs. Christina Vasquez, Director of Education with Holocaust Museum
Houston returning for a third year. Along with Dr. Ingrid Fry,
Associate Professor, Department of Classical and Modern Languages and
Literatures, Texas Tech University, they will facilitate a two-day
workshop on Holocaust education to be offered on Tuesday and Wednesday, June
10-11, 2003, at the International Cultural Center of Texas Tech University.
Program content includes the following: Towards A Racial State: Eugenics and
Nazi Racial Ideology; Historical Context for a Study of the Holocaust and
victims of Nazi Persecution, 1933-1945; and Nazi Art as Propaganda. A
presentation about how to incorporate primary documents in the classroom
with focus on their relevancy to TEKS and the TAKS Test will be given after
each of the topics.
