Tax Identification Numbers Info
Most tax reports require a tax identification number. The Social Security Number is used by most people who are authorized to work in the United States, but persons who do not have employment authorization may not be eligible for a social security number. Persons who are not eligible to apply for a social security number can apply to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
Texas Tech University is a Certifying Acceptance Agent for ITIN applications. Information and applications are available from Bob Crosier in the Office of International Affairs, 742-2974, or from Sharon Williamson in the Office of Tax Compliance and Reporting, 742-3255.
