J Program 30-Day Grace Period
Upon completion of the J program described on form DS-2019, the J-1 visitor and dependents can legally remain in the United States for up to 30 days beyond the program end-date on form DS-2019 while preparing to leave the United States. The grace period does not apply if the J program is terminated prematurely.
Extensions and transfers of program must be processed before the 30-day grace period begins. The entire transfer process must be completed before the end-date on the prior DS-2019.
